        The T8830C is built upon ICS Triplex's patented TMR architecture, where three independent input channels are provided for each of the 32 field inputs, and a hardware-based 2oo3 (two-out-of-three) voter determines the final input state accepted by the controller. For each field input point, the three internal channels process the signal independently. The voter compares the results; if all three agree, the value is passed to the application logic.

        The T8830C includes extensive onboard diagnostics that continuously monitor the health of each input channel and the connected field wiring. Diagnostic circuits detect open-wire conditions (broken field wiring) by applying a small test current through the field circuit and measuring the resulting voltage. When an open-wire is detected, the module reports the fault to the controller, allowing maintenance to be scheduled before the fault affects a safety function.

        The T8830C is certified to IEC 61508 Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL 3), the highest level for digital input modules in safety instrumented systems (SIS).
