Overview Manuals Specifications Application Scenarios Connection Configuration

Features:

  • Connects one Modbus Plus interface with up to four Modbus serial ports while supporting master and slave operation on both protocols.
  • Offers individually configurable RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 communication with flexible baud rate, parity, data size, stop bit, node address, and RTS timing settings.
  • Combines stand-alone DIN-rail installation with 24 VDC power, communication status indicators, RTU and ASCII support, and industrial environmental ratings.
ProSoft 5302-MBP-MCM4 provides an integration point for industrial installations where Modbus Plus networks and Modbus serial equipment must operate together. Existing plants may contain controllers, field equipment, and serial devices using different communication interfaces, making a dedicated protocol gateway useful for maintaining data exchange across the system. One Modbus Plus connection and up to four serial channels allow multiple communication paths to be coordinated through a stand-alone unit. Master and slave capabilities provide flexibility when assigning communication responsibilities. The DIN-rail format also supports installation within industrial control cabinets without requiring a dedicated PLC rack slot.

Communication flexibility is a key application value of ProSoft 5302-MBP-MCM4. Individual serial ports can be configured for RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 operation to accommodate different Modbus devices. Adjustable baud rate, parity, data size, stop bits, node addressing, and RTS timing allow communication settings to be matched to connected equipment. RTU communication uses CRC-16 error checking, while ASCII communication uses LRC error checking. Such configuration options make the gateway suitable for networks containing serial devices with different communication requirements.

ProSoft 5302-MBP-MCM4 can be applied across manufacturing, oil and gas, electrical power, and food processing environments where protocol integration is part of the control architecture. Operation from -20 to 50°C and storage from -40 to 85°C support typical industrial installation and storage conditions. Relative humidity can range from 5% to 95% when condensation is prevented. Dedicated LEDs provide immediate information about power, module operation, application status, serial activity, and communication errors. Combined with the 18 to 36 VDC input range, the gateway provides a practical interface for distributed Modbus Plus and Modbus communication systems.

The 5302-MBP-MCM4 ProSoft Modbus Plus to Modbus Master/Slave Gateway may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Description
ProSoft 5302-MBP-MCM4 creates a communication link between devices on a Modbus Plus network and equipment using Modbus serial communication. The stand-alone gateway mounts on a DIN rail and provides one Modbus Plus port together with up to four Modbus-enabled serial ports. Both the Modbus Plus and Modbus protocol drivers support master and slave operation, allowing the gateway to communicate with controllers and field devices in different network roles. ProSoft 5302-MBP-MCM4 can therefore provide a flexible interface for systems combining Modbus Plus equipment with Modbus devices.

ProSoft 5302-MBP-MCM4 provides individually configurable application serial ports supporting RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 communication. Available communication settings include baud rates from 110 to 115K, one or two stop bits, seven or eight data bits, and none, even, or odd parity. Node addresses from 1 to 247 are software selectable, while RTS timing delays can be configured from 0 to 65535 ms. RTU mode uses CRC-16 error checking, and ASCII mode uses LRC error checking, allowing communication parameters to be matched with different Modbus devices.

ProSoft 5302-MBP-MCM4 uses a single DB9 female Modbus Plus port, with the protocol driver configurable as either a master or a slave. A DB-9M RS-232 configuration port is provided without hardware handshaking. Application serial ports support configurable RS-232 handshaking, and screw termination is included for RS-422 and RS-485 connections. LED indicators show power and module status, application status, serial port activity, and serial activity or error status, providing useful visual information during commissioning and troubleshooting.

ProSoft 5302-MBP-MCM4 operates from a nominal 24 VDC power supply with an allowable range of 18 to 36 VDC and a maximum current load of 500 mA at 24 VDC. Power connections use positive, negative, and ground terminals, with a 2.5 mm screwdriver blade specified for the terminals. The gateway operates from -20 to 50°C, can be stored from -40 to 85°C, and supports 5% to 95% relative humidity without condensation. Typical applications include manufacturing, oil and gas, electrical power, and food processing systems requiring integration between Modbus Plus and Modbus equipment.
