Description
The Triconex 8110 chassis is the heart and starting point of every Tricon safety system. As the Main Chassis (Model 8110), it houses the first set of I/O and communication modules and defines the initial topology for all subsequent growth. Every field signal, safety logic calculation, network connection and diagnostic datum is collected, processed and distributed from here, making the 8110 the “first-level” and most critical safety hub of the entire platform.

When the process unit grows—more tags, more distributed locations—the 8110 seamlessly accepts additional Expansion Chassis and/or RXM (Remote Expansion Module) Chassis through the dedicated backplane bus and copper or fiber links. A single 8110 Main Chassis can drive up to fourteen expansion or remote-expansion chassis, creating a multi-tier safety chain that can stretch hundreds of meters. The new chassis mirror the same hardware redundancy, clock synchronization and diagnostic coverage found in the 8110, so horizontal scale-up is achieved without compromising safety integrity or response speed.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
How many Main Chassis must be configured in a Tricon system?
How many Main Chassis must be configured in a Tricon system?
How many Main Processors are mandatory in the Main Chassis, and what model and firmware rules apply?
Three Model 3008 Main Processors must be installed, and the system firmware must be Tricon v9.6 or later.
How many Power Modules must reside in the Main Chassis?
Two Power Modules are required.
How many user-definable slots does the Main Chassis provide for I/O or specialty modules?
Six logical slots for user-selected modules plus one dedicated COM (communication) slot.
What is a “v9 low-density configuration”?
A transitional arrangement where v9 Main Processors, v9 communication modules and v9 I/O modules are installed in an older v5–v8 chassis, retaining the original slot density while gaining v9 functionality.
When should Expansion Chassis be added?
When the I/O count exceeds the Main Chassis capacity and the total I/O-bus cable length per channel to the farthest Expansion Chassis is ≤ 100 ft (30 m).
