Features:
- Single-Slot Modbus Communication Module for Allen-Bradley ControlLogix Platform
- Supports Modbus RTU and Modbus ASCII Protocols with Simultaneous Master/Slave Operation
- Integrates Ethernet Port for Remote Configuration and Diagnostics
The ProSoft MVI56E-MCM single-slot ControlLogix communication module serves as the Modbus gateway within a ControlLogix rack, enabling robust serial communication between the ControlLogix processor and Modbus devices. It continuously handles protocol conversion and data exchange across RS-232 or RS-485 serial interfaces, supporting baud rates up to 115.2 kbps to ensure reliable throughput for all connected field devices and controllers. Seamless protocol translation is standard with the MVI56E-MCM, however utilizing the Enhanced Communication Module features will allow advanced diagnostics and remote monitoring capabilities through the integrated Ethernet port in the event of complex network configurations.
The MVI56E-MCM provides essential Modbus communication functions common to the entire control network, and is a critical component of the data exchange path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of the overall automation system. One MVI56E-MCM module is required per ControlLogix rack depending on the desired communication topology. The MVI56E-MCM occupies only a single full-height slot in the rack and can be installed in any available slot position (not restricted to specific slots, unlike dedicated power supply positions).
For Dual Port Operation applications, the MVI56E-MCM supports two independent serial ports configurable for different Modbus networks. In addition to standard single port operation, the dual port configuration also performs simultaneous master and slave functions. The MVI56E-MCM dual port configuration executes protocol handling using the internal circuitry specified in the module options. Using this method, the redundant communication system continually monitors the health of both serial channels. If the system detects that the primary serial port is no longer providing stable communication (outside configured error/tolerance levels), it will automatically transfer the data handling to the secondary port and log an event in the Module Event Log.
The MVI56E-MCM ProSoft single-slot ControlLogix communication module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
