Features:
- Bridge Between Modbus TCP/IP Networks and ControlLogix® Platform Backplane
- Integration of 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port with Enhanced Client/Server Communication Capabilities
- Seamless Operation with 1756 ControlLogix Processors and Studio 5000 Development Environment
The MVI56E-MNETC operates as the Modbus TCP/IP Client Enhanced Communication Module in a ControlLogix rack, providing reliable client-side communication to all Modbus TCP/IP server devices within the industrial network. It continuously manages outgoing client connections (up to 30 simultaneous connections) and facilitates data exchange between the ControlLogix processor and remote Modbus TCP/IP servers. Seamless integration is standard with the MVI56E-MNETC, however using an optional Redundant Ethernet Configuration will allow seamless switchover to a backup network path in the event of a primary communication failure. The MVI56E-MNETC has made improvements in several areas over previous communication module designs in addition to incorporating enhanced data throughput capability within the ControlLogix platform.
The MVI56E-MNETC provides essential communication functions common to the entire network architecture, and is a critical component of the data exchange path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of the overall control system. One MVI56E-MNETC module is required per ControlLogix rack depending on the desired client connection capacity. The MVI56E-MNETC occupies only a single full-height slot in the rack and can be located in any available slot position (not restricted to specific slots, providing flexible installation options).
For Enhanced Reliability applications, the ControlLogix System may utilize a second MVI56E-MNETC communication module installed in a redundant configuration with appropriate network infrastructure. In addition to standard single module operation, the redundant configuration also performs automatic switchover. The ControlLogix dual communication configuration executes failover using the internal logic specified in the processor configuration. Using this method, the redundant communication system continually monitors the health of both MVI56E-MNETC modules. If the system detects that the primary MVI56E-MNETC is no longer providing stable communication (outside configured timeout/connection levels), it will automatically transfer the data exchange to the secondary module and log an event in the Controller Event Log.
The MVI56E-MNETC ProSoft Enhanced Communication Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
