More Information

Overview Manuals Selection Installation Service Product Applications

Features:

  • Compact cylinder detection: The low-profile body fits approved SMC actuator switch grooves.
  • Two-wire interface: The switch operates in series with a compatible DC load or PLC input.
  • Visible setup aid: The red indicator helps locate the operating point during controlled adjustment.
D-M9B detects the magnetic piston position of a compatible pneumatic actuator and reports that state to a two-wire load circuit.

Its exact identity includes the in-line cable exit, which can determine whether the lead clears nearby tooling and guards.

Reliable use depends on the actuator mounting arrangement, electrical load and final adjustment under real machine motion.

Apter Power can help confirm the SMC D-M9B Solid-State Auto Switch, actuator compatibility, lead routing and PLC input fit before quotation.

Important Notice: Other accessories, manuals, cables, calibration data, software, etc. are not included with this equipment unless listed in the above stock item description. All prices are shown in USD.
  • Actuator family: Verify the cylinder documentation names the D-M9 family and required mounting hardware.
  • Cable direction: Choose the in-line body only where its entry direction clears surrounding structure.
  • Voltage window: Keep the load supply within the manufacturer’s published range.
  • Lead scope: Confirm the ordered cable length or connector arrangement from the full suffix.
  • Hardware check: Use the specified groove hardware and small mounting screw.
  • Gentle mounting torque: Tighten only enough to secure the body without damage.
  • Weld-current separation: Keep the switch and lead away from prohibited magnetic or welding environments.
  • Identity proof: Verify the actual switch marking after installation.
  • Housing inspection: Check cracking, mounting damage and contamination before electrical testing.
  • Known-load test: Use an approved test load when workshop confirmation is required.
  • Label record: Photograph the exact switch code and lead length for stores.
  • Replacement history: Record each changed switch separately from actuator maintenance.
  • End-of-stroke confirmation: Reports cylinder position to a PLC sequence.
  • Fixture interlocks: Confirms clamp or slide position before the next machine step.
  • Compact handling equipment: Fits actuators where switch space is limited.
  • Maintenance retrofits: Restores a documented two-wire position signal without changing the control strategy.
Description
On an SMC actuator installation designed for this switch form, D-M9B provides an electrical position signal without adding a mechanical limit-switch arm to the motion area.

D-M9B is a two-wire solid-state auto switch that responds to the actuator’s piston magnet. This non-contact sensing method supports repeatable end-position feedback without a mechanically operated switch lever.

The in-line lead exit on D-M9B routes the cable along the cylinder body and distinguishes the model from perpendicular-entry variants. That orientation can make cable management clearer where the lead follows the actuator profile.

DM9B
Technical notes
Confirm the actuator’s documented switch family and mounting hardware before fitting D-M9B. Isolate the load circuit, inspect the groove and use the specified small mounting screw without over-tightening. After installation, record the final marked model and complete several controlled actuator cycles before returning the machine to service.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
A cylinder currently uses the perpendicular-entry V variant. Can D-M9B replace it because both are two-wire switches?
Do not approve the change automatically. D-M9B has an in-line lead while the V version routes the lead perpendicularly; confirm physical clearance, groove position and cable protection before substitution.
The LED on D-M9B lights, but the PLC input remains off. Which checks should come first?
Measure the two-wire load circuit, verify polarity and confirm that the PLC input draws a compatible current. A visible LED proves local switching activity but not that the receiving input meets the circuit requirements.
A PLC input flickers when D-M9B is near the piston transition point. Should the switch be replaced?
First adjust the switch to a stable detection position, secure the mounting screw and check cylinder repeatability. Flicker at the magnetic edge can result from position setting or mechanical variation.
The machine uses a very high-impedance input with D-M9B. Can off-state leakage cause a false signal?
It can affect a receiving circuit whose threshold is not compatible with the documented leakage current. Compare both values and stop the installation if compatibility cannot be demonstrated from the input specification.
Receiving paperwork lists DM9B instead of D-M9B. Is that enough to accept the switch?
Use DM9B only as a search alias. Acceptance should rely on the actual D-M9B marking, two-wire specification, lead direction and required cable scope.
After installing D-M9B, the cable is pulled each cycle. Can a longer lead solve the problem alone?
Not if the route creates repeated tension. Provide strain relief, preserve bend radius and move the cable away from the moving envelope; then select the required lead length or connector arrangement.
