Features:
- The gateway maps wireless PROFINET IO communication to a PROFIBUS segment.
- An R-SMA antenna path supports the selected 2.4 or 5 GHz IWLAN connection.
- Redundant 24 V inputs and optional C-PLUG storage separate supply and configuration roles.
Wireless association delivers the PROFINET side but does not replace PROFIBUS addressing.
The nine-pin interface carries bus data and a limited auxiliary 5 V supply.
Indicators divide radio, PROFIBUS and device states for fault isolation.
The Siemens 6GK1417-5AB00 IWLAN/PB LINK PN IO Gateway may remain available for quotation and support beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Carrying cyclic data between two different network domains
- PROFINET side: The link appears as the configured IO device across IWLAN.
- Gateway map: Assigned input and output bytes are transferred between network images.
- PROFIBUS side: The master interface exchanges those values with addressed field devices.
- Project consistency: Device names, addresses and module layouts must describe the same station chain.
Keeping bus timing and physical limits aligned
- Bus rate: All devices operate at the configured common PROFIBUS speed.
- Segment length: The documented 20 m limit is observed before adding a repeater.
- Termination: The first and last active nodes terminate the bus segment.
- Auxiliary supply: The 5 V interface output remains within its 100 mA load limit.
Connecting the gateway to the intended IWLAN cell
- Antenna chain: R-SMA cable, antenna gain and placement form the radio path.
- Country profile: Permitted band, channel and power settings follow the installation region.
- Security: SSID, authentication and encryption must match the wireless network.
- Roaming state: Association and signal conditions are checked before diagnosing fieldbus data.
Restoring radio and fieldbus parameters together
- Dual supply: Both 24 V inputs and terminal polarity are checked.
- C-PLUG: Approved removable memory can retain the configured device data.
- Project archive: PROFINET name, IP settings, WLAN profile and PROFIBUS map are preserved.
- Commissioning order: Power, wireless link, PROFINET state and PROFIBUS exchange are tested in sequence.
