Features:
- Provides fast ESB bus data transmission for I/O module communication.
- Enables high availability with two modules in slots 7 and 8.
- Supports multiple FCU models and up to 9 node units per coupler.
The EC401-10 S2 provides high-speed ESB bus communication at 128 Mbps between the Field Control Unit (FCU) and connected Node Units. This high data transfer rate ensures rapid I/O module data transmission for real-time process control applications. The EC401-10 S2 supports connection of up to 9 units including ANB10S/D, ANT401, ANT411, and ANT421, with a maximum transmission distance of 10 meters.
The EC401-10 S2 supports both single and dual-redundant configurations to meet varying system reliability requirements. For non-redundant ESB bus, the EC401-10 S2 is installed in slot 7 with the 8th slot covered by a dummy module. For critical applications requiring maximum uptime, two EC401-10 S2 modules can be installed in slots 7 and 8 for dual-redundant ESB bus configuration. This redundancy ensures continued communication if one module fails, eliminating single points of failure and significantly enhancing system availability.
The EC401-10 S2 is compatible with a wide range of Field Control Units including AFV30S/D, AFV40S/D, A2FV50S/D, and A2FV70S/D. Style code S3 or later of the EC401-10 S2 is required for combination with the CP471 processor module. For SEM (Sequence of Events Manager) use, the EC401-10 S2 should be style 2 or later. The EC401-10 S2 is available with suffix codes for standard type (-5), explosion protection (-E), and ISA Standard G3 option (-1), providing flexibility for various installation environments.
The EC401-10 S2 YOKOGAWA Bus Coupler Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Central Distributed Control Hubs: Serves as the primary link connecting the core FCU (e.g., AFV30 or AFV40 chassis) to multiple downstream ANB10S/D ESB Bus Node Units.
- High-Speed Signal Synchronization: Drives deterministic 128 Mbps real-time data loops across up to 9 remote I/O sub-racks, allowing the central processor to scan thousands of temperature, pressure, and flow tags within milliseconds.
- Continuous Heavy Process Industries: Extensively deployed within Petrochemical plants, large-scale Oil & Gas refineries, offshore drilling grids, and automated thermal power plants where data dropping or link latencies can cause severe factory safety trippings.
- Dual-Redundant Path Failover: When two identical EC401 modules are paired in the master slot array, they form a Dual-Redundant ESB Bus topology. The module's diagnostic layers continuously watch the transmission lines; if an electrical cable short-circuit or a master chip fault occurs on line 1, the standby module takes over the link seamlessly with zero control disruption.
- Sequence of Events Management (SEM) Readiness: The Style 2 (S2) revision includes upgraded silicon logic that natively supports SEM for Vnet/IP architectures. This hardware feature timestamps fault sequences directly at the bus layer with millisecond precision, helping engineers trace the root cause of automated trips.
- Line-Fault & Termination Supervision: The module interacts with the connected slave module (e.g., SB401-10) to actively monitor link signal-to-noise ratios. If an inline cable breaks or a bus terminating resistor is disconnected, it immediately flags a diagnostic alarm on the Yokogawa CENTUM Engineering HIS Station.
- Dedicated Slotting: The EC401-10 S2 must always be installed in Slot 7 and Slot 8 of the primary Field Control Unit (such as the AFV30S/D or AFV40S/D).
- Redundancy Allocation: For standard dual-redundant tracking, fill both slots 7 and 8. If running a single non-redundant bus, mount the single EC401 into Slot 7 and seal Slot 8 with a mandatory dummy module to preserve internal cabinet airflow and bus continuity.
- Cabling Parameters: Hook up the master interface to remote racks using Yokogawa's dedicated YCB301 copper bus cables. The physical cable length must not exceed a maximum length of 10 meters to avoid signal attenuation over copper line paths.
