Features:
- Interface Between the Overspeed Detection System and 3500 Rack Backplane
- Combines Capability of Electronic Overspeed Detection with Redundant Tachometer Support
- Operates in Conjunction with the M Series and Standard 3500 Monitors
The 3500/53 133388-01 operates as the Electronic Overspeed Detection System in a 3500 rack, providing highly reliable, fast response overspeed protection to all modules within the system. It continuously monitors incoming tachometer signals and detects overspeed conditions with rapid response time, distributing protection signals through the rack backplane to support safe shutdown operation of critical rotating machinery. Seamless detection capability is standard with the 3500/53, however using an optional Redundant Voting Configuration will allow 2-out-of-2 or 2-out-of-3 (recommended) voting systems in the event of a single module failure. The 3500/53 has made improvements in several areas over previous overspeed detection designs in addition to incorporating API Standards 670 and 612 compliance within the 3500 rack.
The 3500/53 provides essential overspeed protection functions common to the entire rack, and is a critical component of the safety instrumented system, directly affecting the proper, safe operation of the overall machinery protection system. One or multiple 3500/53 modules are required per rack depending on the desired voting redundancy level. The 3500/53 occupies only a single full-height slot in the rack and can be located in any available monitor slot position.
For Dual or Triple Voting Redundancy applications, the 3500 System requires additional 3500/53 modules installed in the designated slots. In addition to standard single module operation, the redundant voting configuration also performs automatic comparison and decision logic. The 3500/53 voting configuration executes protection decisions using the internal circuitry specified in the module options. Using this method, the redundant voting system continually monitors the health of all 3500/53 modules. If the system detects that one 3500/53 module is no longer providing reliable detection (outside configured tolerance levels), it will automatically continue protection based on the remaining modules and place an event in the System Event List.
The 3500/53 133388-01 Bently Nevada Electronic Overspeed Detection System may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
