Features:
- Controls a multidrop Genius bus with as many as 31 additional devices
- Transfers global, discrete, analog, and register data with the Series 90-30 CPU
- Supports four baud settings and bus lengths up to 7,500 ft
IC693BEM331 connects the PLC backplane with distributed Genius I/O and intelligent devices.
Bus data moves into configured %G, %I, %Q, %AI, %AQ, and %R memory areas for direct controller use.
Front indicators and fault reporting distinguish module health from communication status during commissioning.
The General Electric IC693BEM331 Series 90-30 Genius Bus Controller may remain available for quotation and installed-system support from Apter Power.

Genius bus operation
- Device capacity: The controller shares one bus with as many as 31 additional devices.
- Baud selection: Available rates are 153.6 kbaud standard or extended, 76.8 kbaud, and 38.4 kbaud.
- Cable reach: The 38.4 kbaud setting supports a bus length up to 7,500 ft.
- Status: OK and COMM OK indicators separate module state from bus activity.
Controller data exchange
- Global data: The controller transmits 128 bytes and can receive 128 bytes from each device.
- Input data: One bus device can supply up to 128 bytes of input data.
- Output data: One bus device can receive up to 128 bytes of output data.
- Memory areas: Mappings may use %G, %I, %Q, %AI, %AQ, and %R references.
Bus wiring and integration
- Media: Use supported shielded twisted-pair or Twinax cable.
- Termination: Both physical ends require a resistor matching the 75, 100, 120, or 150-ohm cable impedance.
- Compatibility boundary: A system using IC693BEM331 cannot also contain a Genius Communications Module.
- Backplane load: The module draws less than 300 mA from the 5 VDC supply.
Supported Genius projects
- Distributed I/O: Genius I/O blocks can serve machine and process points along the multidrop cable.
- Remote drops: Series 90-70 remote I/O drops can exchange data with the Series 90-30 controller.
- Field Control: Field Control stations extend the bus to modular field I/O assemblies.
- Multi-host networks: Hand-Held Monitors and eligible controllers can share maintenance and control information on the bus.
