Overview Manuals Slave Setup PDO Defaults Object Access Status LEDs

Features:

  • Adds a CANopen slave interface to a compatible SmartStack host.
  • Starts with two send and two receive PDOs when unconfigured.
  • Uses separate indicators for readiness, activity and line errors.
Horner HE800COS600 is the slave-side SmartStack communications configuration for compatible OCS, RCS and TIU controller platforms.

It allows the host application to appear as one addressable device inside a wider CANopen system, with selected controller values presented to the unit that manages the bus.

For system matching, record the existing node ID, shared bit rate, expected PDO directions and the register area reserved in the local controller.

The Horner HE800COS600 CANopen Slave Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

HE800COS600 Slave Setup

  • Node identity: The module occupies one unique address from 1 through 127.
  • Master control: Network-state commands determine when the slave enters operational service.
  • Configuration receipt: A CANopen master can deliver the finished node setup through SDO download.
  • Host image: OCS, RCS or TIU register space must cover the slave process data assigned to the module.

HE800COS600 PDO Defaults

  • Initial capacity: The unconfigured node exposes two transmit and two receive PDOs.
  • Data sent: Transmit PDOs carry host values outward to the controlling master.
  • Data received: Receive PDOs place master values into the SmartStack process image.
  • Downloaded change: A custom HSyCon setup can replace this starting layout.

HE800COS600 Object Access

  • Object address: An index and sub-index identify each SDO-accessible entry in the slave.
  • Configuration channel: SDO transactions transfer individual settings outside normal PDO traffic.
  • Access check: Message Monitor can test supported reads and writes against the selected node.
  • Direct telegrams: Transparent CAN Layer 2 provides a path for selected frames that are not part of the PDO image.

HE800COS600 Status LEDs

  • RDY: Steady yellow confirms that the communication module is ready.
  • RUN: Green distinguishes active communication from a stopped state.
  • ERR: Red identifies an error on the CAN communication line.
  • System fault: Non-cyclical RDY flashing points to a hardware or system problem.
Description
Horner HE800COS600 presents its host controller to CANopen as a slave node. Instead of coordinating other devices, it receives operational direction from the network master and transfers mapped inputs and outputs between the CAN bus and the SmartStack host.

When no configuration master is used, HE800COS600 starts with two receive and two transmit PDOs. A network project can download a customized layout through SDO services, while object indexes support individual data access and transparent CAN Layer 2 handles selected telegrams outside the PDO map.

Bringing HE800COS600 online requires a unique node ID and the same baud rate as the controlling master. PDO direction must be read from the slave perspective: received data enters the node process image, transmitted data returns to the master, and the OCS, RCS or TIU registers must match that allocation.

Technical notes
Horner HE800COS600 operates as a SmartStack CANopen slave/node with PDO, SDO and transparent CAN support. Without a configuration master it provides two transmit and two receive PDOs using default mapping.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Why is RDY illuminated on Horner HE800COS600 while RUN stays off?
Horner HE800COS600 is powered but not exchanging traffic. Check termination, confirm its unique ID and shared bit rate, then verify the controlling unit has placed it in operation.
Can Horner HE800COS600 pass basic data without an HSyCon download?
Yes. Horner HE800COS600 starts with two send PDOs and two receive PDOs, providing a small predefined exchange before a customized setup is transferred.
Why do incoming commands from Horner HE800COS600 land in unexpected OCS registers?
The host allocation for Horner HE800COS600 does not match the receive-image layout. Align register type, starting location and quantity with the slave setup.
What does the red ERR indication on Horner HE800COS600 mean?
A lit ERR indicator on Horner HE800COS600 identifies a communication-line problem; review cabling and online diagnostics together with the RDY and RUN states.
Does transmit PDO mean data entering or leaving Horner HE800COS600?
Transmit identifies data leaving Horner HE800COS600 toward the controller in charge; receive identifies values delivered into the local process image.
Why can Horner HE800COS600 reject an individual object request even when connected?
Horner HE800COS600 rejects unsupported or incorrectly addressed access. Recheck index, sub-index, read/write direction and the requested entry in the object dictionary.
