More Information

Overview Manuals Fiber Specification Chain Topology Commissioning Application
  • Extend the 2 Mbps Module Fieldbus over multimode fiber up to 4 km
  • Install identical FCM2F4 modules at both ends of every fiber segment
  • Use redundant adjacent modules when the project requires dual optical paths

FCM2F4 is a Foxboro 4 km fiber-optic fieldbus communications module designed for the Foxboro Fieldbus Communication Modules family.

Foxboro FCM2F4 extends the 2 Mbps Module Fieldbus between remote 200 Series baseplates over multimode fiber links up to 4 km. FCM2F4 is the functional designation and RH917JA is its module part number; fiber cable and baseplates are separate hardware. The module at each end of a fiber segment must be the identical FCM2F4 type.

Before installation or replacement, verify the complete nameplate, compatible hardware, network or field wiring, saved configuration, software release and commissioning plan.

Availability, condition, price, and shipping time for FCM2F4 are confirmed during quotation.

  • Use 62.5/125 µm graded-index multimode fiber, 0.275 NA, with ST connectors
  • Keep each FCM2F4 fiber segment within 4 km
  • Verify optical polarity, connector condition and loss before service
  • Place redundant FCMs in the documented first or last adjacent slots
  • Use up to four baseplates and three fiber extensions in a supported chain
  • Install FCM2F4 at both ends of each segment
  • Confirm local and remote Module Fieldbus traffic at both FCMs
  • Check both optical paths before removing a redundant module
  • Prove alarms and communication recovery during a controlled path test
  • Remote 200 Series FBM baseplates separated by up to 4 km over multimode fiber
  • Redundant point-to-point Module Fieldbus extension in electrically noisy plant areas
  • Distributed I/O baseplate chains requiring fiber isolation from ground loops and lightning exposure
Description
FCM2F4, module part RH917JA, extends a 2 Mbps Module Fieldbus between 200 Series baseplates over multimode fiber for distances up to 4 km.

Use identical FCM2F4 modules at both ends of each segment and match the 62.5/125 µm fiber, ST connectors, baseplate positions and redundancy design.

Before replacement, record A/B fiber paths, module slot pairing, optical routing, connected baseplates and communication diagnostics.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
When should FCM2F4 be selected instead of the other FCM2F versions?
Choose it when the approved baseplate-to-baseplate link requires multimode fiber and fits the documented 4 km reach; do not select by enclosure appearance.
Can FCM2F4 be paired with a different FCM2F model at the far end?
No. Schneider Electric requires identical types at both ends of the segment, so FCM2F4 must connect to FCM2F4.
What additional hardware is needed for a redundant FCM2F4 link?
Each connected baseplate requires an approved redundant module pair, separate A/B fiber paths and the compatible 200 Series baseplate arrangement.
Can an existing plant fiber be reused with FCM2F4?
Only after its fiber type, ST terminations, attenuation, route and condition are verified against the FCM2F4 specification. The installed fiber must meet the specified multimode core, numerical-aperture and loss limits.
Why can FCM2F4 show no fiber traffic after replacement?
Check transmit-to-receive polarity, connector seating and cleanliness, fiber continuity and loss, identical end models, baseplate position and Module Fieldbus activity.
Can one FCM2F4 be replaced while the redundant link remains active?
The module is removable with baseplate power present, but first prove the partner path is healthy and follow the approved hot-replacement procedure.
How should FCM2F4 be commissioned?
Verify both local and remote baseplates, optical polarity and link indicators, A/B continuity, all attached FBMs, alarms and recovery after a controlled path transfer.
