More Information

Overview Manuals Expansion Layout Device Support Recovery Application
  • Expand an FCP270 through four documented 2 Mbps Expanded Fieldbuses
  • Support standard 200 Series FBMs and listed migration modules within controller sizing limits
  • Use the approved two-slot or four-slot expansion baseplate and terminate every fieldbus chain correctly

FEM100 is a Foxboro fieldbus expansion module designed for the Foxboro Fieldbus Expansion Modules family.

Foxboro FEM100 expands an FCP270 with four redundant 2 Mbps Expanded Fieldbuses for distributed 200 Series FBMs and supported migration modules. FEM100 is the functional designation and P0973CA is the official module part number; P0973CG and P0973CN are separate expansion baseplates.

Before installation or replacement, verify the complete nameplate, compatible hardware, network or field wiring, saved configuration, software release and commissioning plan.

Availability, condition, price, and shipping time for FEM100 are confirmed during quotation.

  • Use P0973CG for a dedicated two-slot FEM100 installation
  • Use P0973CN when the four-slot layout also accommodates the FCP270 pair
  • Keep each copper fieldbus chain within the published 60 m limit
  • Connect supported 200 Series FBMs over the 2 Mbps Expanded Fieldbus
  • Use only documented Siemens APACS+ or Westinghouse migration modules
  • Apply the IOM files required by the installed system software release
  • Verify both A and B buses before removing either redundant FEM100
  • Confirm every remote baseplate and fieldbus terminator after replacement
  • Test communication transfer and alarm recovery on all four Expanded Fieldbuses
  • FCP270 expansion to multiple distributed 200 Series FBM baseplate chains
  • FCP270 systems requiring up to four redundant Expanded Fieldbuses
  • FCP270 migration architectures using supported APACS+ or Westinghouse interface modules
Description
FEM100 expands an FCP270 with four 2 Mbps Expanded Fieldbuses for distributed 200 Series FBMs; it is not used with FCP280.

Selection must match the FCP270 software architecture, two-slot or four-slot expansion baseplate, fieldbus termination and required FBM capacity.

Before replacement, record A/B bus assignments, baseplate identity, terminators, cable routing, supported migration modules and active diagnostics.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
What role does FEM100 perform in an FCP270 system?
FEM100 extends the FCP270 Expanded Fieldbus so additional supported FBMs or migration modules can be connected through an approved expansion topology. It does not replace the FCP270 controller.
When is the two-slot baseplate preferred for FEM100?
Use the two-slot expansion baseplate for a dedicated FEM100 pair, including upgrades where the existing FCP270 arrangement is retained; the four-slot baseplate can also house the FCP270 pair.
Can FEM100 support migration modules as well as standard FBMs?
Yes, when the exact migration modules and IOM files are supported by the installed system release and the Expanded Fieldbus sizing rules are met.
Are the expansion baseplate and terminators included with FEM100?
No. Verify P0973CG or P0973CN, the required fieldbus terminators, cables and any FCM2F fiber extenders as separate project items.
Why can an Expanded Fieldbus remain offline after installing FEM100?
Check the FCP270-to-FEM cabling, A/B bus assignments, end termination, baseplate connections, supported IOM files and the downloaded hardware configuration.
Can one module in a redundant FEM100 pair be replaced online?
The partner can carry the Expanded Fieldbus traffic, but confirm healthy redundancy, the active bus and an approved replacement procedure before removal.
How should FEM100 be accepted after installation?
Confirm all four Expanded Fieldbuses, every expected FBM or migration module, A/B redundancy, alarms and recovery, then test any FCM2F remote segments.
