The Triconex 3664 Dual Digital Output Module operates at a nominal voltage of 24 VDC, supporting a wide operating range of 16–30 VDC with a maximum voltage of 36 VDC. It provides 32 commoned digital output signals and is optimized for dual DO, serial architectures, making it especially suitable for de-energize-to-trip safety control programs.
This module receives output commands from the main processors through a single parallel or serial path and applies a 2-out-of-3 voting process individually to each output switch. While TMR modules use fully quadruplicated output circuitry for maximum availability, the dual circuitry of the 3664 offers sufficient redundancy to ensure safe operation at a lower cost, targeting applications where availability requirements are balanced against budget considerations.
Each output point supports a maximum current of 2 A, with a surge capability of 10 A per 10 ms, and features a typical voltage drop below 1.5 VDC. The module is self-protecting, requiring no field-side fuses, and maintains a point-to-point isolation rating of at least 1,500 VDC. Power consumption remains efficient, with a power module load of less than 10 W.
For diagnostics, the 3664 integrates a voltage loopback circuit that verifies output switch operation independently of load presence, enabling detection of latent faults. If the measured field voltage does not match the commanded output state, the LOAD/FUSE alarm indicator is activated. Continuous diagnostics are performed on every channel and circuit; any diagnostic failure triggers the Fault indicator and subsequently activates the chassis alarm. The module supports hot-spare replacement, is mechanically keyed to prevent incorrect installation, and requires an external termination panel (ETP) with a cable interface to the Tricon backplane. All digital outputs are designed to source current, requiring field power to be wired to each output point on the field termination.
