Features:
- The CP connects an S7-300 CPU to Industrial Ethernet through three RJ45 network connections.
- PROFINET IO controller and device roles can operate with RT, IRT and MRP services.
- Stateful firewall and IPSec VPN functions protect the configured network boundary.
The Gigabit-facing port and the paired PROFINET ports have different speeds and network responsibilities.
Open communication, S7 messaging and IT services share the processor while retaining their documented connection limits.
STEP 7 assigns the interface roles, diagnostics, redundancy and access-control settings used by the installed CP.
The Siemens 6GK7343-1GX31-0XE0 CP 343-1 Advanced Communications Processor may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

How the three Ethernet connections divide their work
- Gigabit side: The first RJ45 interface negotiates from 10 to 1000 Mbit/s for the broader Industrial Ethernet connection.
- PROFINET side: Two 10/100 Mbit/s RJ45 ports form the real-time PROFINET interface.
- Controller role: The CP can coordinate up to 128 PROFINET IO devices.
- Device role: The CP can also expose up to 32 submodules while operating as a PROFINET IO device.
Open communication and IT services
- Open links: SEND/RECEIVE communication supports ISO, ISO-on-TCP, TCP and UDP data exchange.
- Controller messaging: Up to 16 S7 communication connections are documented.
- File services: FTP client/server functions use the CP flash and RAM file systems.
- Management: SNMP, DHCP, LLDP, DCP and web diagnostics support network commissioning and observation.
Security controls at the CP boundary
- Firewall: Stateful inspection filters traffic crossing the configured processor interfaces.
- VPN tunnel: IPSec supports preshared keys or X.509v3 certificates for up to 32 VPN connections.
- Access lists: IP-based ACL functions can cover the CP and PLC routing path.
- Service reduction: Unneeded services and communication through physical ports can be disabled.
Redundancy, time and diagnostics
- Ring recovery: Media Redundancy Protocol is supported and the CP can act as redundancy manager.
- Real-time switching: The integrated switch supports IRT for PROFINET IO traffic.
- Clock path: NTP and time-synchronization forwarding align the communication station with the plant time source.
- Maintenance view: Web-based diagnostics and I&M data expose device identity and location information.
