Features:
- Converts Up to 8 High-Impedance Analog Inputs into Digital Data for Controller Storage
- Supports Flexible Single-Ended or Differential Input Wiring Configurations
- Communicates Seamlessly Across the Compact I/O Backplane with CompactLogix™ and MicroLogix™ Controllers
The 1769-IF8 Analog Input Module functions as an 8-channel analog input expansion unit within a Compact I/O system, converting continuous field signals into digitized data for controllers such as CompactLogix™ and MicroLogix™. It continuously reads incoming analog sensors (voltage or current) and processes these measurements for storage and retrieval across the rack backplane. Flexible channel configuration allows high-density single-ended connections for standard installations or differential connections to reject electrical noise in demanding environments.
The 1769-IF8 provides essential analog acquisition functions for the control architecture, serving as a vital link in the data path and directly impacting the monitoring and control of overall field processes. One or multiple 1769-IF8 modules can be installed per system depending on the required sensor count. The 1769-IF8 occupies a single module slot in the Compact I/O bank, securing physically to adjacent modules using tongue-and-groove slots and a top bus lever with a locking mechanism.
For secure installation and system integration, the 1769-IF8 supports both panel mounting via upper/lower tabs and 35 mm DIN rail mounting via dedicated latches. Standard operation relies on a Removable Terminal Block (RTB) with a finger-safe cover, fixed in place by upper and lower retaining screws . Electrical communication across the backplane is performed via a movable bus connector with female pins on the left and a stationary bus connector with male pins on the right. Using this structure, the 1769-IF8 continually feeds accurate sensor data to the controller, displays real-time operational status through its I/O diagnostic LEDs, and allows easy identification via its hinged terminal door label and front write-on tag.
The 1769-IF8 Allen Bradley Analog Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Feedback Loops: Feeds highly accurate data into Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) loops to optimize automated variables.
- Factory and Machinery Automation: Integrates seamlessly into packaging, material handling, assembly lines, and HVAC controls.
- Sensor Flexibility: Supports a mix of inputs including voltage (±10V DC) and current (0 to 21mA) using either single-ended or differential wiring depending on noise immunity needs.
- Controller Compatibility: Works natively with CompactLogix controllers and can be used as expansion I/O for MicroLogix 1500 systems.
- Backplane Connectivity: Connects directly via the bus connector of the 1769 system without needing a separate chassis, utilizing a tongue-and-groove locking mechanism for a rugged assembly.
- Network Extension: When combined with a communication adapter module, it can be deployed in distributed I/O banks communicating over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, or DeviceNet.
- Data Formatting: Communicates raw/proportional values, engineering units, percent range, or data scaled-for-PID directly to the controller tags via software like RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000.
- LED Status Indicator: A front-facing diagnostic LED simplifies troubleshooting by communicating module health, power status, and initialization errors.
- Power-up Self-Test: Executes an automated internal circuit and memory check upon power-up before enabling channel conversions.
- Signal Range Detection: Provides onboard over-range and under-range detection to flag when an instrument is transmitting data outside normal parameters.
- Channel Configuration Filters: Features programmable digital filtering (noise rejection) per channel to cancel out unwanted electrical noise from harsh industrial environments.
