More Information

Overview Manuals Network Integration System Planning Memory and Firmware Application
  • The upper controller port accepts a standard Ethernet cable with an RJ-45 connector
  • The controller IP address can be assigned with the Rockwell BOOTP Utility, RSLinx, or RSLogix 5000
  • DH-485 and ControlNet NAP cables must not be connected to the EtherNet/IP port

1769-L35E EtherNet/IP commissioning begins by connecting the RJ-45 network cable to the controller’s upper communication port and assigning an address suitable for the plant network.

Rockwell Automation documents BOOTP, RSLinx, and RSLogix 5000 as supported address-assignment methods; confirm the intended IP address, subnet mask, and gateway before restoring controller communications.

Identify the Ethernet connector carefully during installation, because inserting a DH-485 network cable or a ControlNet NAP cable into this port can cause improper operation or port damage.

Availability, condition, price, and shipping time for 1769-L35E are confirmed during quotation.

  • The built-in EtherNet/IP port supports control, configuration, messaging, HMI, and data collection
  • Produced and consumed tags can exchange controller data over EtherNet/IP
  • Distributed I/O is organized in the project beneath the appropriate remote Ethernet adapter
  • The controller is the leftmost module in the first CompactLogix bank
  • Each of the three possible I/O banks requires its own power supply
  • Expansion cables and a 1769-ECR or 1769-ECL end cap complete the communication bus
  • A 1784-CF128 card can store and restore the controller application
  • The project and firmware on CompactFlash must match the controller type and intended revision
  • Series B hardware requires a compatible RSLogix 5000 and controller-firmware pair
  • CompactLogix machine control with local and distributed I/O
  • EtherNet/IP communication with HMI, peer controllers, and messaging devices
  • Produced/consumed tag and remote-I/O coordination over EtherNet/IP
Description
1769-L35E is a CompactLogix controller that combines processor execution, local and distributed I/O coordination, EtherNet/IP networking, and serial communication in a modular 1769 control system.

The controller provides 1.5 MB of user memory, one embedded 10/100BASE-T EtherNet/IP port, and one RS-232 serial port. Its local architecture supports up to 30 connected 1769 I/O modules arranged in compatible I/O banks.

Supported controller functions include messaging, produced and consumed tags, HMI communication, and access to distributed I/O through the EtherNet/IP network. An optional 1784-CF128 CompactFlash card provides nonvolatile storage, while the specified 1769-BA battery supports memory retention.

Before installing or replacing a 1769-L35E, confirm the hardware series, compatible firmware and RSLogix 5000 revision, saved controller project, IP address settings, RS-232 configuration, CompactFlash and battery contents, local I/O-bank arrangement, power-supply spacing, and end-cap installation.

Technical notes
1769-L35E uses one embedded EtherNet/IP port for programming, HMI, messaging, and distributed I/O; confirm the assigned IP settings and available CIP connections before restoring a CompactFlash image, or network ownership may fail.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
What files and settings should be collected before removing 1769-L35E from service?
Back up the current RSLogix 5000 project and CompactFlash contents, then record firmware, hardware series, IP/subnet/gateway, serial configuration, I/O bank layout, and active EtherNet/IP connections so the original station can be reconstructed.
How should a customer plan the migration from 1769-L35E?
Rockwell marks 1769-L35E for Engineering Replacement without naming a direct successor. Compare application memory, Ethernet and serial functions, firmware conversion, local I/O layout, panel space, and network dependencies before selecting a target.
Why might local I/O remain offline after installing a replacement 1769-L35E?
Compare the downloaded project with the physical module order, three-bank layout, power supplies, expansion cables, distance ratings, and end caps; a mismatch can prevent the CompactBus configuration from operating.
Can 1769-L35E share its EtherNet/IP port between HMI, peer messaging, and distributed I/O?
Yes. The official manual supports these communication roles, but the project must allocate connections correctly and retain capacity for programming and other required non-I/O traffic.
How is the EtherNet/IP address commissioned on 1769-L35E?
The controller ships with BOOTP enabled; assign and verify the IP configuration through the supported BOOTP/DHCP and RSLogix 5000 workflow before placing it on the production network.
Can a CompactFlash project from another controller be loaded into 1769-L35E?
Only after confirming the CompactFlash project was created for 1769-L35E and that its firmware revision matches; a controller-type or firmware mismatch can fault the controller or trigger an unintended update.
Where must Allen-Bradley 1769-L35E be positioned in the first CompactLogix I/O bank?
Install Allen-Bradley 1769-L35E as the leftmost module in the first bank. Keep the controller within its four-module power-supply distance rating, and preserve the documented power-supply, module-order, expansion-cable, and end-cap arrangement.
