More Information

Overview Manuals Redundancy Setup Sensing Diagnostics Application
  • Supports a documented redundant 5 V DC chassis-power arrangement
  • Allows up to four compatible supplies with system capacity based on the installed quantity
  • Provides an alarm contact for monitoring loss of a supply within the redundant system

1771-P4R is an Allen-Bradley redundant AC-input power-supply module for compatible 1771 I/O chassis.

Multiple 1771-P4R supplies share the chassis load so that the configured system can continue operating after a supported single-supply fault.

Calculate the complete chassis demand and verify every supply position, interconnection and alarm circuit before replacing or adding a module.

Availability, condition, price, and shipping time for 1771-P4R are confirmed during quotation.

  • Install two to four supplies in adjacent supported chassis slots
  • Assign each supply a unique identifier within the redundant group
  • Connect the redundancy cables and configuration zones in the documented sequence
  • Configure the terminal-block jumpers for local or remote sensing
  • Preserve the existing sense wiring when replacing one supply
  • Verify that the sense arrangement agrees across the complete supply group
  • Use the active-supply indicator to confirm each operating module
  • Use the nonredundant indicator and alarm relay to detect loss of redundancy
  • Verify the total backplane load against the N+1 capacity before returning the chassis to service
  • N+1 backplane power for high-availability PLC-5 chassis
  • Redundant supply groups for supported 1771 racks
  • Alarm-monitored replacement of legacy PLC-5 chassis power
Description
A 1771-P4R is intended to operate as a member of a redundant power-supply group rather than as an independently configured substitute for every 1771 chassis supply.

Two to four adjacent 1771-P4R modules can form the documented N+1 arrangement. Each supply contributes an 8 A output, connects to the other members through redundancy cables, and must be assigned its own identification number.

Configuration switches are selected from the chassis current requirement and surrounding air temperature. Rear jumpers establish local or remote sensing, while separate terminal connections provide AC input, protective grounding, and alarm-relay wiring.

When exchanging one member of an existing group, its input-voltage rating, identification switch, configuration switches, sensing jumpers, redundancy-cable position, and alarm connections must be duplicated from the removed unit; an unmatched setting can prevent the supplies from establishing the intended redundant condition.

Technical notes
1771-P4R operates in a paired redundant supply group; confirm chassis support, unique IDs, redundancy cabling, sensing, and backplane load, because mismatches disable redundancy.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Can one 1771-P4R operate by itself as a redundant system?
No. Rockwell Automation specifies redundant groups of two to four adjacent 1771-P4R supplies; a single unit does not provide the documented N+1 arrangement.
Is 1771-P4R a drop-in replacement for any 1771 chassis power supply?
No. Confirm a supported non-Series-A chassis, adjacent redundant-supply layout, total backplane load, unique supply ID, redundancy cables, sensing arrangement, alarm wiring, and AC branch protection before selection.
Do all 1771-P4R supplies in a group need unique identifiers?
Yes. Configure each supply with a unique ID from 1 through 4 and arrange the redundancy cables and configuration zones exactly as documented.
Can 1771-P4R be installed or removed while the chassis is powered?
No. Rockwell Automation requires power to be removed before inserting or removing 1771-P4R. Working with backplane or field power applied can cause arcing, equipment damage, unintended operation, and hazardous-location risks.
How should the load be checked when adding or replacing 1771-P4R?
Calculate the complete 5 V backplane load and compare it with the N+1 capacity for the number of installed supplies at the operating temperature.
What does the alarm connection on 1771-P4R indicate?
The alarm relay changes state when the redundant system loses the required redundancy condition; verify the relay wiring and both front-panel indicators during commissioning.
Why can a replacement 1771-P4R show a nonredundant condition?
Check the supply ID, adjacent-slot arrangement, redundancy cables, configuration zones, AC input, output load, sensing jumpers, alarm wiring, and compatibility of every supply in the group.
