More Information

Overview Manuals Processor & Memory Communications Expansion & I/O Diagnostics & Controls

Features:

  • A 50 MHz floating-point DSP with a fixed 1 ms watchdog supports direct power-converter control.
  • A24/D16 VME master/slave operation and an 8 KB dual-ported SRAM interface connect the processor to the control rack.
  • Four daughterboard positions, dual RS-485 paths, and local programmable memory expand communications and I/O beyond the VME datapath.
SW1 performs a hard reset of the processor and every fitted daughterboard. Holding SW2 while pressing and releasing SW1 requests a serial boot from the P6 synchronous port.

The faceplate exposes IMOK and FAIL status indicators, four project-defined amber LEDs, and TP1 through TP4 for digital, analog-output, and common-reference checks.

An add-only electronic ID memory lets the processor read installed board identity and hardware-revision information during power-up without allowing that identity to be altered.

The General Electric DS200DSPCH1A Digital Signal Processor Control Board may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

  • Processor: A 50 MHz floating-point DSP supplies real-time computation for power-converter control.
  • Watchdog: A fixed 1 ms watchdog monitors processor operation.
  • Program storage: Program and FPGA configuration data reside on a removable flash-memory SIMM.
  • Application storage: A socket-mounted EEPROM retains configurable application items.
  • VME role: DS200DSPCH1A operates as an A24/D16 master or slave; slave access uses 8 KB dual-ported SRAM.
  • P5 monitor port: A DB15 RS-485 asynchronous port supports an isolated PC connection through external conversion.
  • P6 high-speed link: A DB37 synchronous serial port supports DSPC-to-DSPC communication independent of VME.
  • UART: The dual-channel device supports up to 1.152 Mbaud with 16-byte transmit and receive FIFOs.
  • Daughterboard capacity: Four option positions use paired 60-pin XA and 40-pin XB connectors.
  • Position assignment: Positions are interchangeable before project assignment but not after configuration is fixed.
  • P2 backplane: Extended paths include tach, diagnostic digital, DAC, differential analog, and application-defined signals.
  • P9 expansion: A DIN C96 buffered port carries local data, address, control, and synchronization lines.
  • Status indicators: IMOK green reports normal operation, while FAIL red reports a VME-detected failure.
  • Project LEDs: Four amber indicators are software-defined for the individual application.
  • Testpoints: TP1 checks processor digital I/O, TP2 and TP3 expose ±10 V DAC outputs, and TP4 is analog common.
  • Front controls: SW1 performs a hard reset; holding SW2 during SW1 reset requests serial boot from P6.
Description
General Electric DS200DSPCH1A is the Digital Signal Processor Control Board used to supply computation and communications bandwidth for direct control of demanding power-converter applications, including load-commutated converters, high-performance drives, active filters, dynamometers, wind turbines, and UPS equipment.

At the center of DS200DSPCH1A is a 50 MHz floating-point DSP supervised by a fixed 1 ms watchdog. Executable code runs from high-speed static RAM after startup, while program and FPGA configuration data are held on a removable flash SIMM and application-specific items are retained in a socket-mounted EEPROM.

The DS200DSPCH1A can operate as an A24/D16 VME master or slave and provides an 8 KB dual-ported SRAM interface when used as a slave. Separate asynchronous and synchronous RS-485 paths support a PC monitor connection and board-to-board high-speed communication, while four paired daughterboard positions expand local I/O and communications.

Front-panel access on DS200DSPCH1A includes a hard-reset button, a serial-boot request button, six LEDs, four testpoints, and the P5/P6 serial connectors. The IMOK and FAIL indicators report board and VME status, while the remaining four amber LEDs are assigned by the individual project.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Why can DS200DSPCH1A stay unresponsive even when rack power is present?
A dark IMOK or repeated FAIL indication on DS200DSPCH1A points to watchdog resets or a VME fault; separate those conditions before replacing the board.
How can DS200DSPCH1A be forced into serial boot when normal startup fails?
Hold SW2 on DS200DSPCH1A while pressing and releasing SW1, then release SW2 so the processor requests its boot stream through P6.
Which DS200DSPCH1A port should be used when a PC monitor will not communicate?
Use the P5 asynchronous RS-485 connection on DS200DSPCH1A for the PC monitor, and verify that the external converter keeps PC ground separate from board common.
What goes wrong if a daughterboard is moved to another DS200DSPCH1A position?
The DS200DSPCH1A positions are interchangeable only before project assignment; moving a configured daughterboard may redirect I/O, addressing, control, or synchronization.
When DS200DSPCH1A local signals look inconsistent, where should testing begin?
Start at the DS200DSPCH1A front testpoints: TP1 separates digital I/O, TP2 and TP3 expose the two analog outputs, and TP4 is analog common.
Can DS200DSPCH1A be replaced without preserving its memory devices?
A usable DS200DSPCH1A replacement depends on the correct flash SIMM, EEPROM, FPGA data, and fitted daughterboard identities being retained or restored.
If DS200DSPCH1A still communicates through P6, does that prove the VME path is healthy?
P6 traffic does not prove the DS200DSPCH1A VME interface is healthy, because the synchronous P6 channel is a separate board-to-board path.
