Features:
- Houses an 11-slot Series Six Plus CPU configuration in a 19-inch chassis.
- Includes the AC power supply and core rack-control hardware.
- Presents separate indicators for power, CPU, memory, and I/O-chain conditions.
The IC600CP630 supplies the common backplane and physical structure around which the selected Series Six Plus processor is assembled.
Its logic and memory capability comes from the modules installed in the reserved CPU positions, not from the empty rack designation alone.
GE later introduced the shallower IC600CP620 replacement, making cabinet depth and slot-address records important parts of any conversion.

Reconstruct the installed processor, not only the chassis
- Rack arrangement: Inventory the Arithmetic Control, Logic Control, memory, I/O-control, and communication hardware fitted to IC600CP630.
- Operational effect: The same rack number can support materially different controller capabilities.
- Ribbon connection: Match visible assembly suffixes and compatibility requirements before moving boards.
- Ribbon path: Keep the Arithmetic-to-Logic ribbon cable with the verified module pair and check it for damage before power is applied.
- Program record: Use the saved rack drawing and program record to confirm the finished CPU build.
Read the front panel as a system
- Battery condition: The IC600CP630 indicators separate power-rail health, I/O-chain continuity, input parity, output enable, CPU self-check, RUN state, and battery condition.
- Cable path: A failed or flashing indication should be correlated with the attached module and chain status.
- Memory condition: This prevents a rack exchange from masking a memory, cable, or field-power problem.
- Indicator evidence: Record the normal indicator pattern after commissioning so later faults can be compared with a known-good baseline.
Control the move to the shallow replacement
- Slot 5 addressing: IC600CP620 is the designated shallow replacement for IC600CP630.
- Slot 5 address: Verify enclosure depth, mounting clearances, cable support, and the slot 5 address before installation.
- Cable path: Back up the user program and retained values, label every plug-in module and cable, and preserve switch settings in photographs and a written build sheet.
- Output control: Reapply power with outputs disabled and prove the controller state before field actuation.
Separate chassis symptoms from module faults
- Grounding: If IC600CP630 will not enter RUN, begin with the supply, protective earth, module engagement, ribbon connection, and memory state.
- Parity response: Then check parity and chain indicators against the I/O map.
- Fault isolation: A fault outside the rack can hold the CPU in STOP even when the chassis and power supply are sound.
- Diagnostic result: Replace hardware only after the diagnostic pattern has been recorded and a controlled substitution can be reversed.
