Features:
- Flexible 7-Slot Modular Backplane
- Redundant Power Supply Support
- Harsh Environment Version Available
Honeywell TC-FXX072 provides seven slots that accept any mix of single-wide or double-wide CIOM-A modules, including I/O, controllers, communication, and specialty modules, enabling highly customizable system configurations.
Honeywell TC-FXX072 is compatible with a redundant power system (TC-RPCXX1 + TC-RPSCA2) that features current sharing, error detection, and failure annunciation, ensuring continuous operation for mission-critical control applications.
Honeywell TC-FXX072 has a conformally coated counterpart, TK-FXX072, which is certified for moderate (G2) and harsh (G3) corrosive atmospheres, providing reliable operation in chemical, offshore, and other aggressive industrial environments.
The TC-FXX072 Honeywell 7-slot passive chassis (backplane) may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Distributed Control System (DCS) I/O Racks: Used as a local or remote I/O chassis for housing analog/digital I/O modules in Experion LS process control systems (e.g., refining, chemical, power generation).
- C200E Controller Chassis (Non-Redundant Mode): In non-redundant configurations, it can host the C200E control processor alongside I/O modules for compact control solutions.
- Remote I/O for Hazardous Areas: When populated with intrinsically safe modules and appropriate power supplies, the TK-FXX072 (coated) version can be deployed in Class I, Division 2 locations with corrosive atmospheres (G2/G3).
- System Expansion via ControlNet: Acts as a remote I/O chassis connected to a main C200E downlink chassis over I/O ControlNet, expanding the total I/O capacity up to 64 I/O units per controller.
- No Firmware for Chassis: The Honeywell TC-FXX072 is a passive hardware backplane and contains no firmware or software. It does not require any updates.
- Firmware for Installed Modules: Firmware updates are performed only on the modules installed within the chassis (e.g., C200E controller, CNI communication modules) via the ControlNet network using Honeywell NTOOLS.
- Gateway-Only Firmware Loading: For Rail I/O modules (RIOM-A), only the ControlNet Gateway supports firmware loads through NTOOLS; other modules in the chassis are not loadable.
- Update Process: ControlNet firmware updates require the appropriate engineering tools (NTOOLS) and are managed online or offline per Honeywell standard procedures.
- Hazardous Location Certification: Certified for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D (ordinary and hazardous locations) and ATEX II 2G EEx ib IIC T4 (Europe).
- Environmental Compliance: Meets CE EMC Directive (89/336/EEC) per EN 50081-2 (Emissions) and EN 50082-2 (Immunity) for industrial environments.
- Corrosion Protection: The TK-FXX072 variant offers conformal coating tested to G3 level (harsh) per ISA-S71.04-1985, protecting electronics in corrosive gas atmospheres.
- RIUP Restriction: Removal/Insertion Under Power is permitted only in ordinary, non-hazardous locations; strictly prohibited when the chassis is installed in a Class I, Division 2 hazardous location to maintain safety.
