Features:

  • Triple-Redundant I/O Safetybus Communication
  • Online Hot Replacement Without System Interruption
  • Continuous Self-Diagnostics and Loopback Testing
Each ICS Triplex T7310 module communicates with one dedicated processor module, forming a true triple-redundant path. This design ensures that failure of any single transceiver or its associated power supply does not affect system availability or safety functions.

The ICS Triplex T7310 supports hot replacement, allowing a faulty module to be removed and a new one inserted while the system remains in operation. No power-down, no configuration reload, and no process interruption are required.

Processor modules periodically send loopback tests to every ICS Triplex T7310. Any detected failure — whether communication loss, power supply interlock, or internal fault — immediately triggers a local red FAULT LED and a remote processor error indication, enabling rapid fault isolation.

The T7310 ICS Triplex  I/O Transceiver Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

  • TÜV Certified for Risk Class 5:The ICS Triplex T7310 is independently certified for use in systems up to SIL 3 per IEC 61508. This certification simplifies project acceptance by regulatory authorities and insurance underwriters.
  • Strict EMC Immunity:Designed to meet IEC 801-2 (ESD), -3 (radiated fields), -4 (bursts), -5 (surge), and ANSI/IEEE C37.90, the ICS Triplex T7310 operates reliably even in electrically noisy environments such as variable frequency drive rooms or switchgear enclosures.
  • Power Supply Interlock Protection:If its dedicated I/O power supply fails, an interlock signal automatically shuts down only that ICS Triplex T7310. This prevents erratic behavior or data corruption while the redundant transceivers continue normal operation.
  • Fail-Safe Diagnostics:Processor-initiated loopback tests continuously verify the integrity of each ICS Triplex T7310. Any failure is immediately reported both locally (FAULT LED) and remotely (processor error log), enabling rapid, targeted maintenance.
  • Deterministic I/O Safetybus Communication:The ICS Triplex T7310 eliminates communication indeterminism by using a dedicated, triplicated bus architecture. This ensures that safety data arrives within predictable time bounds — critical for fast-acting protection functions.
  • Hot Replacement for Maximum Uptime:Because the ICS Triplex T7310 supports online removal and insertion, plant operators do not need to schedule full system shutdowns for module replacement. This directly improves overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Zero Periodic Maintenance:The ICS Triplex T7310 requires no calibration, no firmware updates, and no periodic component replacement. Engineering teams can focus on process optimization rather than module upkeep.
  • Low Thermal Load:With heat dissipation of only 8 Watts (27 BTU/hour) per module, the ICS Triplex T7310 contributes minimally to cabinet heating. This reduces cooling requirements and improves long-term reliability of adjacent electronics.
  • Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD):The ICS Triplex T7310 ensures that critical field inputs reach the logic solver without single points of failure, making it ideal for high-integrity ESD applications in oil & gas, refining, and chemical plants.
  • Fire & Gas Detection (F&G):In F&G systems, deterministic communication is essential. The triple-redundant architecture of the ICS Triplex T7310 prevents a single module fault from blocking alarm or suppression commands.
  • Turbo-machinery Control:High-speed turbines and compressors require continuous, jitter-free communication. The ICS Triplex T7310 provides the stable I/O Safetybus link necessary for surge protection and speed control logic.
  • Critical Process Control:For batch reactors, high-pressure vessels, or exothermic processes, the ICS Triplex T7310 delivers the combination of high availability and deterministic response that safety-instrumented functions demand.
Description
The ICS Triplex T7310 I/O Transceiver Module serves as the backbone of communication within the Trusted® safety instrumented system. Installed three per I/O chassis, it creates a triple-redundant architecture where each module interfaces directly with one of the three processor modules in the controller chassis. This design ensures that no single point of failure can interrupt system operation.

During normal operation, the ICS Triplex T7310 actively reads I/O chassis identification codes and directs appropriately addressed commands along the backplane Safetybus to I/O modules. Module responses are then buffered and transmitted back through the transceiver to the processor modules via dedicated I/O Safetybus cables. This closed-loop, redundant data path guarantees reliable and deterministic communication for emergency shutdown, fire & gas, and turbo-machinery control systems.

Built to meet global safety standards, the ICS Triplex T7310 is TÜV certified for Risk Class 5 applications. It requires no periodic maintenance or calibration, reducing long-term operational costs while maintaining the highest levels of system integrity. The module’s front-panel indicators (green ACTIVE, red FAULT) provide immediate visual status, and full self-diagnostics, including processor-initiated loopback tests, continuously verify module health.

Technical notes
The ICS Triplex T7310 is hot-replaceable and receives power from one of three redundant I/O power supplies; a dedicated interlock signal will automatically shut down the transceiver if its associated power supply fails. All detected faults generate both an I/O module error indication on the processor module and a local FAULT LED on the ICS Triplex T7310 itself, enabling rapid diagnostics without system interruption.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Can I mix different revisions of the ICS Triplex T7310 in the same I/O chassis?
While physically compatible, mixing revisions is generally not recommended for new installations. For existing systems already in operation, always refer to the latest Trusted® system release notes. If you need to replace a faulty unit, using the same or a directly approved revision ensures predictable diagnostic behavior and avoids unexpected interlock conditions.
What safety certifications does the ICS Triplex T7310 hold, and what do they mean for my plant?
The ICS Triplex T7310 is TÜV certified for Risk Class 5, which corresponds to SIL 3 under IEC 61508. This means the module is approved for use in the most demanding safety instrumented functions where a failure could lead to major hazardous events. Using certified modules simplifies overall system validation for regulators and insurance bodies.
What environmental conditions can the ICS Triplex T7310 withstand?
The ICS Triplex T7310 is specified for industrial environments. It operates reliably from 0°C to 60°C, survives storage from -40°C to 85°C, and tolerates 95% non-condensing humidity. It also passes rigorous shock (15g) and vibration (±0.15mm) tests, making it suitable for onshore and offshore applications.
Does the ICS Triplex T7310 require any periodic calibration or component replacement?
No. The ICS Triplex T7310 is designed for maintenance-free operation. There are no user-serviceable parts inside, and the official documentation states that no periodic maintenance or calibration is required. This reduces both spare parts inventory and long-term engineering effort.
