Features:
- Two PROFINET sides remain independent IO-device connections.
- Configured output data on one side becomes input data on the other.
- Replaceable BusAdapters define the physical connectors and are ordered separately.
The coupling map can carry ordinary I/O, PROFIsafe and record-based exchanges.
Up to four controllers can participate on each network side within the documented configuration.
Dedicated LEDs distinguish supply, device, maintenance and link conditions.
The Siemens 6ES7158-3AD10-0XA0 SIMATIC PN/PN Coupler may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Pairing outputs on one network with inputs on the other
- Side X output: Controller data written on the first side enters the assigned coupling submodule.
- Side Y input: The paired submodule presents those bytes as input data on the second side.
- Reverse path: A separate mapping carries data back in the opposite direction.
- Length agreement: Both engineering projects must configure compatible byte lengths for each pair.
Dividing a coupler side among multiple PN controllers
- Per-side limit: Up to four PROFINET controllers can be assigned on each network side.
- Submodule ownership: Controller access is allocated through the configured submodules rather than a shared unstructured buffer.
- MSI and MSO: Multiple shared input and output functions extend the mapped-data arrangement.
- Independent projects: Device name, IP parameters and controller assignment are engineered separately for both sides.
Moving larger data records across the subnet boundary
- Record size: One transfer can contain up to the documented 4096-byte record length.
- Queue depth: The FIFO stores up to eight records in the supported record path.
- I/O separation: Record traffic is configured independently from cyclic input and output byte areas.
- Status handling: The application evaluates transfer status before advancing its record sequence.
Completing the two network connections and supply paths
- BusAdapter positions: Each PROFINET side accepts its own SIMATIC BusAdapter.
- Separate order: BusAdapters are not included with the coupler and must match the selected cable interface.
- Redundant feed: Two 24 V DC inputs can provide a redundant supply arrangement.
- LED isolation: PWR and LINK indications identify supply and physical-network conditions without combining the two sides.
