Features:
- AS-Interface master supporting up to 62 slaves with V2.11 specification and M3 master profile.
- Galvanic isolation (500 V) between AS-interface and S7-200 backplane for noise protection.
- Supports up to 248 digital inputs and 186 digital outputs with 5 ms cycle time for 31 slaves.
The 6GK7243-2AX01-0XA0 bridges the gap between simple AS-i field devices and an S7-200 PLC. AS-Interface is a low-cost, two-wire network for connecting binary sensors and actuators—limit switches, proximity sensors, pushbuttons, and small contactors. Without this module, the S7-200 cannot communicate with AS-i devices. The 6GK7243-2AX01-0XA0 acts as the AS-i master, polling up to 62 slaves and making their I/O data available to the PLC program. This allows the S7-200 to control an entire machine cell or small production line using low-cost AS-i cabling instead of point-to-point wiring.
The 6GK7243-2AX01-0XA0 delivers deterministic performance with a 5 ms bus cycle when using up to 31 slaves. This is fast enough for most machine control applications, including packaging, material handling, and small assembly cells. Even at the maximum configuration of 62 slaves, the cycle time is only 10 ms—still suitable for many industrial processes. The module supports up to 248 digital inputs and 186 digital outputs, providing ample I/O capacity for small to medium applications. The galvanic isolation at 500 V protects the S7-200 CPU from electrical noise generated by field devices.
It draws 220 mA from the backplane bus and 100 mA from the AS-interface at 30 V, with total power loss of only 3.7 W. LED indicators (PWR, APF, CER, AUP, CM, SF) provide immediate status feedback. Configuration is done via onboard pushbuttons or the command interface—no separate software is required for basic setup. For facilities using AS-Interface sensors and actuators with S7-200 PLCs, this module is the essential link.
The 6GK7243-2AX01-0XA0 Siemens Communications Processor may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Machinery and Conveying Systems: Connects limit switches, photoelectric sensors, cylinder solenoid valves, etc., distributed in various locations.
- Packaging and Sorting Equipment: Simplifies wiring in production lines that require processing large amounts of digital signals (switching signals).
- Logistics Conveying Control: Suitable for scenarios requiring long-distance distribution and low-cost networking.
- Simple Control Tasks: As an extension of the S7-200, it handles up to 62 AS-i slave devices (V2.1 standard).
- LED Status Indicators: The panel is equipped with multiple LEDs to display module power, AS-i network faults, slave configuration errors, and other statuses.
- Short Circuit and Overload Protection: Built-in protection circuitry prevents damage to the module from abnormal AS-i bus power supply, providing short circuit protection.
- System Diagnostic Communication: Real-time transmission of slave faults (such as disconnection or read errors) to the CPU facilitates fault location via HMI or programming software.
- Fault Tolerance Mechanism: A data verification mechanism is incorporated into AS-i network communication to enhance resistance to electromagnetic interference.
- Rail Mounting: Directly mounted on a 35mm standard DIN rail, located on the right side of the CPU.
- Bus Connection: Connects to the S7-200 CPU or the expansion interface of the previous expansion module via the included ribbon cable.
- External Power Supply: In addition to the PLC's internal power supply, the module must be connected to a dedicated AS-i power supply (30V DC) to power the slave stations on the bus.
