Features:
- Eleven digital inputs capture reference, measurement, brake, and cam-track enable signals.
- Incremental, SSI absolute, and two-wire feedback options cover several position-sensor formats.
- Sixteen short-circuit-protected 24 V outputs switch the configured electronic cam tracks.
The controller converts encoder position and configured track data into deterministic output changes for machine motion sequences.
Differential RS422 paths carry high-frequency incremental or SSI information, while the 24 V path handles asymmetrical pulses.
Encoder supplies, input functions, and cam outputs converge at the 48-pin front connector for cabinet field wiring.
The Siemens 6ES7452-1AH00-0AE0 FM 452 Electronic Cam Controller may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Machine Reference and Control Signals
- Input bank: Eleven 24 V digital inputs receive the configured machine and measurement signals.
- Reference capture: A reference-point switch can establish the positional reference for cam processing.
- Measurement tasks: Flying actual-value setting and length measurement use configured input events.
- Output enable: Dedicated functions release the brake and enable cam-track outputs three through ten.
Supported Position Feedback
- Differential incremental: A symmetrical 5 V RS422 encoder supplies A, inverted A, B, inverted B, and zero-mark pairs.
- Single-ended incremental: A 24 V asymmetrical encoder provides A, B, and zero-mark signals.
- Absolute position: An SSI encoder transfers serial DATA and clock pairs using the differential interface.
- Sensor option: The module also accepts the documented two-wire sensor connection.
Position-Dependent Switching
- Track bank: Sixteen 24 V digital outputs represent configured electronic cam tracks.
- Load drive: Each active output can supply the documented current within the 0 to 55 °C operating range.
- Protection: Short-circuit protection limits output damage from a connected field-circuit fault.
- Timing source: Cam transitions are calculated from the selected encoder position and configured track data.
Rack-to-Field Connection
- Connector: One 48-pin front connector carries the digital, encoder, and supply circuits.
- Encoder power: Separate 5 V and 24 V supplies support the matching feedback-device interface.
- Cable limits: Maximum encoder lead length depends on voltage, signal type, and selected clock or pulse rate.
- Rack boundary: The IP20 module remains inside the S7-400 cabinet while field wiring exits through the front connector.
