Features:
- Rapid and creep-feed outputs reduce axis speed before the target position is reached.
- Incremental, SSI absolute, and two-wire feedback options serve different position-sensing arrangements.
- Eight isolated inputs and eight isolated outputs connect external drive and process signals.
Siemens 6ES7351-1AH01-0AE0 performs positioning functions inside an S7-300 rack.
The module evaluates the configured feedback and changes the drive commands at the programmed switching points.
Positioning parameters and diagnostic state pass between the module and CPU through the backplane.
The Siemens 6ES7351-1AH01-0AE0 FM 351 Positioning Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Position Feedback Selection
- Incremental input: Differential A, B, and N tracks provide relative position pulses.
- SSI input: Clock and data pairs read a 13-bit or 25-bit absolute position word.
- Two-wire input: A two-wire sensor can provide the reference required by the selected mode.
- Configuration match: The hardware connection and parameterized feedback type must be identical.
Isolated External Signals
- Input group: Eight digital inputs receive enable, limit, and process conditions.
- Output group: Eight digital outputs issue configured drive and status commands.
- Isolation: Digital I/O is galvanically isolated from the module logic.
- Front connection: One 20-pin connector carries the field-side signals.
Rapid and Creep-Feed Sequence
- Target comparison: The module compares actual position with the assigned target.
- Rapid command: The drive runs at the faster command while the axis is far from target.
- Creep command: The module changes to the lower speed before final positioning.
- Completion state: Configured tolerances determine when the position is reported as reached.
Feedback Cable Boundaries
- Incremental limit: The permitted pulse frequency decreases as encoder cable length increases.
- SSI length: A lower SSI clock allows the documented long cable reach.
- Signal pairs: Differential feedback conductors must remain paired and shielded.
- Commissioning: Polarity, reference direction, and limit inputs should be checked before axis travel.
