- Accepts pulse, BCD, binary and quadrature counting for high-speed position or event inputs
- Requires two adjacent 1771 chassis slots within the same module group
- Uses an external 12–24 V DC input supply matched to the installed encoder or pulse source
1771-IK is an Allen-Bradley encoder/counter module for high-speed pulse accumulation in a 1771 I/O system.
Its configurable counting functions include directional and quadrature operation, allowing the controller to receive position or event information that cannot be handled as ordinary discrete inputs.
Selection must account for two-slot placement, source voltage, signal frequency, filtering and the saved block-transfer configuration.
Availability, condition, price, and shipping time for 1771-IK are confirmed during quotation.

- Select BCD, binary, or the documented quadrature counting mode
- Presets are compared with the accumulated count to control module outputs
- Marker and limit functions must match the saved processor program
- The K version is intended for 12–24 V DC encoders and sensors
- Choose mechanical filtering for switches or high-speed filtering for electronic devices
- Verify quadrature phase, shielding, and external-supply quality
- Reserve two adjacent slots within the same I/O module group
- Use both documented 1771-WB field-wiring arms
- Confirm input and output supplies, commons, terminal assignments, and grounding before startup
- Quadrature encoder position counting
- High-speed optical or proximity-sensor counting
- Preset-controlled material counting and machine sequencing
