More Information

Overview Manuals Gateway Services Network Capacity HotBackup Logic Physical Interface

Features:

  • IS220PPRFH1B operates as a PROFIBUS DP Class 1 master in Mark VIe and Mark VIeS control.
  • The gateway carries both cyclic process exchange and supported acyclic access.
  • Optional Boolean event logging records configured events with 10 ms resolution.
IS220PPRFH1B places PROFIBUS device communication behind the controller's IONet interface.

Its H1B configuration supports defined control-frame choices for different network loads.

The accessory-board arrangement keeps field-bus termination separate from the controller-side gateway electronics.

The General Electric IS220PPRFH1B PROFIBUS Master Gateway Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

PROFIBUS Master Functions

  • DP-V0 exchange: Cyclic process input and output data are transferred between the controller and slaves.
  • DP-V1 access: Acyclic Class 1 services support diagnostics and online parameterization.
  • Slave setup: The gateway applies the configured device and network parameters.
  • Alarm handling: DP-V1 alarm information is returned through the gateway interface.

Configuration Boundaries

  • Addressed devices: One master can supervise as many as 124 PROFIBUS slaves.
  • Slave payload: Each device can use up to 244 input bytes and 244 output bytes.
  • Input total: Configured input process data must not exceed 3584 bytes.
  • Combined total: Input and output data together are limited to 7168 bytes.

Active and Standby Pair

  • Normal state: One module owns the PROFIBUS master role while the partner remains synchronized.
  • Failure trigger: Communication loss or loss of module power can initiate takeover.
  • Transfer time: The standby unit becomes active in less than 200 ms.
  • Shared network: Both modules are wired to the same PROFIBUS segment in the approved pair arrangement.

Connection and Operating Limits

  • Bus connector: PROFIBUS uses the RS-485 DE-9 interface.
  • Termination: Resistors are enabled only at the two physical ends of the segment.
  • Power input: The gateway draws no more than 0.18 A from a 27.4–28.6 V dc supply.
  • Ambient range: Rated operation extends from -20 to +55 °C.
Description
Serving the PROFIBUS side of a Mark VIe or Mark VIeS control architecture, General Electric IS220PPRFH1B is a PPRF Class 1 master gateway. Its position is between the IONet controller domain and a PROFIBUS DP segment.

Controller configuration and output commands enter IS220PPRFH1B from IONet, are applied to the configured slave network, and return as process inputs, alarms, and diagnostic information. This two-way path includes cyclic exchange as well as supported acyclic parameter access.

The H1B hardware defines the timing and data-capacity boundary for IS220PPRFH1B; the chosen frame rate must be evaluated together with the slave count and mapped input/output bytes. This prevents a fast update selection from being considered separately from the actual network load.

For the physical installation, IS220PPRFH1B works with the IS200SPIDG1A accessory board and an RS-485 PROFIBUS connection. A second matching gateway can form the documented active/standby arrangement when HotBackup operation is required.

Technical notes
IS220PPRFH1B is the DP-V1-capable H1B gateway; its network design is constrained by both slave count and aggregate input/output byte limits.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
A slave is online but its process values do not update through IS220PPRFH1B. What should be checked first?
Check the configured input and output byte mapping for that slave and confirm that the total network allocation remains inside the IS220PPRFH1B process-data limits.
Why can cyclic I/O continue while a DP-V1 parameter request through IS220PPRFH1B fails?
Cyclic DP-V0 exchange and DP-V1 acyclic access use different services; verify that the slave supports the requested Class 1 service and that IS220PPRFH1B has the correct device configuration.
The PROFIBUS segment connected to IS220PPRFH1B is intermittent near one end. Where should termination be enabled?
Enable termination only at IS220PPRFH1B when it is one physical end of the segment and at the device at the opposite end; intermediate nodes must not be treated as end terminators.
An IS220PPRFH1B network is close to its capacity limit. Which figures must be evaluated together?
Review the slave count, the bytes assigned to each slave, and the combined input/output total for IS220PPRFH1B rather than checking only one of those values.
What should be verified if the standby IS220PPRFH1B does not take over after the active gateway loses power?
Confirm that both IS220PPRFH1B units are configured as the approved HotBackup pair, share the intended PROFIBUS segment, and retain healthy partner communication before the failure.
Why would an IS220PPRFH1B fail to start even though its network configuration is valid?
Verify the IS200SPIDG1A companion hardware and the 27.4–28.6 V dc supply to IS220PPRFH1B; a valid slave map does not replace the required accessory and power conditions.
