Overview Manuals Genius Bus Data Mapping Station Setup Applications

Features:

  • IC200GBI001 couples a VersaMax I/O station to a Genius bus.
  • The station accommodates up to 64 modules arranged eight per rack.
  • Rotary selectors set the bus address and one of four communication rates.
The interface presents the installed VersaMax points to a compatible Genius controller as one distributed station.

Rack capacity supports compact local arrangements as well as expanded installations that remain inside the station total.

Front-panel settings allow commissioning personnel to coordinate the node identity and bus timing without a software-only setup step.

The General Electric IC200GBI001 VersaMax Genius Network Interface Unit may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Bus addressing and physical connections

  • Node Identity: Two address dials combine to select a serial bus address from 0 through 31.
  • Rate Dial: A third selector chooses 153.6 Kbaud standard or extended, 76.8 Kbaud, or 38.4 Kbaud.
  • Dual Terminals: Separate removable connectors accommodate primary and redundant Genius cabling.
  • Continuity: A connector can be detached without breaking the bus path for downstream devices.

Station memory and cyclic exchange

  • Input Transfer: Each Genius scan can carry as much as 128 bytes from the station to the controller.
  • Output Transfer: A matching 128-byte path delivers commanded output data to the I/O rack.
  • Discrete Space: Memory is provided for 1024 input points and 1024 output points.
  • Analog Space: Analog references occupy 128 bytes for inputs and another 128 bytes for outputs.

Mechanical and controller integration

  • Rail Mounting: The interface attaches to a conductive 35 mm x 7.5 mm DIN rail for grounding continuity.
  • Supply Position: The VersaMax power module locks directly onto the right side of the network unit.
  • Rack Layout: Eight modules fit in each rack, with expansion bringing the station total to 64.
  • Host Compatibility: Operation requires a PLC or computer equipped to control the Genius bus.

Distributed control arrangements

  • Remote I/O: Field modules can be grouped near equipment and exchanged cyclically with a central controller.
  • Redundant Cabling: Dual bus terminals support systems that route primary and backup Genius segments.
  • Legacy Integration: Compatible Series 90 controllers can supervise VersaMax points through the Genius network.
  • PACSystems Expansion: RX3i and RX7i controllers can incorporate the station when their bus interface meets the required version.
Description
The General Electric IC200GBI001 connects a VersaMax I/O station to a Genius bus and can be controlled by a compatible PLC or computer acting as the bus controller.

A station can contain eight modules per rack and as many as 64 modules overall. During each bus scan, the interface transfers up to 128 bytes of network inputs and 128 bytes of network outputs while maintaining separate discrete and analog memory areas.

Three front rotary selectors set the serial bus address from 0 through 31 and choose among four Genius data-rate modes. Power, operating mode, and network status are visible from the front indicators during commissioning.

Removable primary and redundant bus connectors let one cable be detached without interrupting continuity for other devices. The unit mounts on a conductive 35 mm x 7.5 mm DIN rail, with a VersaMax power supply attached directly at its right side.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
What prevents two General Electric IC200GBI001 units from using the same Genius address?
Set each General Electric IC200GBI001 rotary address to a unique value from 0 through 31 before energizing the bus.
How should the Genius baud setting be chosen for General Electric IC200GBI001?
Every device on the segment must use the same supported data rate; configure General Electric IC200GBI001 for 153.6 Kbaud standard or extended, 76.8 Kbaud, or 38.4 Kbaud to match the bus design.
Why are two removable bus connectors provided on General Electric IC200GBI001?
The primary and redundant terminals on General Electric IC200GBI001 support single- or dual-bus wiring and let a connector be removed without opening continuity for the rest of the segment.
How can memory demand be checked before adding modules behind General Electric IC200GBI001?
Total the mapped discrete and analog data before expansion; General Electric IC200GBI001 allocates 1024 discrete points and 128 analog bytes for each direction.
Which host controllers can operate a General Electric IC200GBI001 station?
General Electric IC200GBI001 can work with a PLC or computer that controls the Genius bus, including compatible PACSystems RX3i, RX7i, Series 90-30, and Series 90-70 systems.
What mounting details matter for General Electric IC200GBI001 network stability?
Install General Electric IC200GBI001 on a conductive 35 mm x 7.5 mm DIN rail, attach the supply on the right, and preserve shield, termination, and bus continuity during wiring.
