Features:
- Redundant interface-module operation is supported.
- Expanded HART auxiliary data can be transferred.
- Isochronous operation is available.
The 6ES7153-2BA70-0XB0 interface supplies the station backplane separately from the fieldbus connection. Its PROFIBUS interface connects the distributed station to the master rather than acting as an individual analog channel.
High-channel-count modules are supported by 6ES7153-2BA70-0XB0, including 64-channel I/O modules. Module count and allocated input/output bytes remain separate station configuration limits.
Slave Initiative support on 6ES7153-2BA70-0XB0 is available for Drive ES and Switch ES. This service is distinct from the cyclic input/output exchange used by the connected station.
The Siemens 6ES7153-2BA70-0XB0 IM 153-2 OD PROFIBUS Interface Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Select the interface in the engineering tool
- Hardware support: HSP 246 adds the interface to the relevant STEP 7 hardware catalog.
- Catalog entry: In STEP 7 V5.5 SP4, the IM 153-2 OD entry is located under PROFIBUS DP and DP/PA Link.
- Order number: The hardware-catalog information displays the full order number to distinguish the selected interface.
- Other tools: GSD-based tools can configure the interface without using the same STEP 7 catalog workflow.
Coordinate station data and bus operation
- SYNC: SYNC operation is supported for coordinated output updating.
- FREEZE: FREEZE operation is supported for holding input data.
- Transmission setup: The interface detects the PROFIBUS transmission rate automatically.
- Station identity: The bus address identifies the interface as a PROFIBUS station and is separate from I/O byte allocation.
Distinguish replacement operation from a new configuration
- Predecessor projects: Specified IM 153-2 predecessor configurations can continue without changing the STEP 7 project.
- Functional selection: A replacement installation retains the functions of the configured predecessor rather than automatically selecting every new function.
- IM 157 exception: Operation as the IM 157 in the identified redundant BM IM/IM configuration is excluded from this replacement scope.
- New installation: A new project can select the IM 153-2 OD hardware entry instead of relying on a predecessor entry.
Two distributed-station arrangements
- ET 200M: The interface connects an ET 200M station of S7-300 I/O modules to PROFIBUS DP.
- DP/PA Link: The module is also used as the interface in a DP/PA Link arrangement.
- Redundant station: Redundant interface operation is supported in the corresponding station configuration.
- Outdoor variant: The OD version extends the operating-temperature range for these interface arrangements; it is not a weatherproof enclosure.
