Features:
- Two configurable DF1 serial application ports
- DF1 full- and half-duplex operation
- Master and Slave communication modes
MVI56-DFCM adds two DF1 channels to a ControlLogix rack for communication with Allen-Bradley serial devices and compatible DF1 nodes.
Its ports support full-duplex and half-duplex networks, with Master or Slave behavior selected to suit the polling and response architecture.
When maintaining an MVI56-DFCM installation, document the duplex mode, station addresses, serial timing, cable pinout, message commands, and controller data map.
The ProSoft MVI56-DFCM DF1 Master/Slave Communication Module is listed as Discontinued / Obsolete by OEM. Apter Power provides legacy sourcing and DF1 application review.

- ManufacturerProSoft Technology
- ModelMVI56-DFCM
- ConditionNew Original ready stock
- Product FamilyControlLogix Communication Module
Duplex and station roles
- Full duplex: Point-to-point or switched DF1 links can use full-duplex messaging.
- Half duplex: Multidrop networks can use half-duplex Master or Slave operation.
- Master functions: Configured commands allow the module to initiate supported DF1 data transfers.
- Slave access: Slave mode responds to requests addressed to the configured DF1 station.
Port-level engineering
- Two channels: MVI56-DFCM supplies two separately configurable serial application ports.
- Communication rate: The documented baud range is 110 to 115200 baud.
- Physical connection: Verify the required cable, electrical interface, handshaking, and termination for each DF1 link.
- Timing values: Response timeout, retries, polling, and station addressing must match the network design.
Migration preparation
- Official status: MVI56-DFCM is retained in the ProSoft legacy download area.
- Configuration archive: Save the module configuration, ladder logic, command list, firmware details, and serial drawings.
- Migration note: ProSoft provides a technical note for moving MVI56-DFCM or DFCMR applications to PLX51-DF1-ENI.
- Engineering check: A migration still requires review of DF1 roles, message paths, data addresses, cabling, and controller logic.
