- Modbus TCP/IP client and server communication for PLC-5 processors
- Single-slot 1771 backplane format using BTR/BTW block transfers
- 5,000-word register space with one client and multiple server connections
MVI71-MNET is a ProSoft Modbus TCP/IP client/server communication module designed for the Rockwell Automation PLC-5 platform.
It links PLC-5 data with Modbus-compatible controllers, instruments, and Ethernet devices while maintaining module status and error information for the ladder application.
Before installation or replacement, verify rack addressing, backplane-current capacity, BTR/BTW logic, Ethernet addressing, register mapping, command files, and the saved module configuration.
Availability, condition, price, and shipping time for MVI71-MNET are confirmed during quotation.

- A 5,000-word module register space holds transferred Modbus and PLC data
- PLC-5 ladder logic exchanges data with the module through BTR and BTW instructions
- Module status, counters, and error data can be returned to the processor for diagnostics
- The client supports one connection with up to 100 configured commands
- Ten server connections are available on port 502 and ten on port 2000
- Client and server function-code support is defined separately in the official protocol specification
- The 1771 backplane must provide 800 mA at 5 VDC for the module
- The module can operate in a local or remote rack when the PLC-5 block-transfer logic is configured correctly
- Rack power must be removed before the module is inserted or withdrawn
- PLC-5 data exchange with Modicon programmable automation controllers
- Acquisition of measurement data from Modbus TCP/IP instruments
- Providing PLC-5 register data to external Modbus TCP/IP client systems
