Features:
- Interface Between Modbus RTU/ASCII Serial Networks and ControlLogix Backplane
- Combines Capability of Dual Serial Port Communication with Flexible Master/Slave Operation
- Operates in Conjunction with the Logix-XT Control Platform and Standard ControlLogix Processors
The MVI56E-MCMXT operates as the Enhanced Modbus Master/Slave Communication Module in a ControlLogix rack, providing seamless data exchange between the processor and Modbus RTU/ASCII serial devices. It continuously facilitates asynchronous data transfer to and from the processor independent of Modbus network communications, with two independently configurable serial ports capable of operating on the same or different Modbus networks. Each port can be configured as either a Modbus Master or Slave, sharing the same user-controlled 10,000-word database. The MVI56E-MCMXT has been specifically designed for extreme environments, tolerating higher operating temperatures and incorporating a conformal coating to protect against harsh or caustic conditions.
The MVI56E-MCMXT provides essential communication functions common to the entire rack, and is a critical component of the data exchange path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of distributed I/O and device integration. One MVI56E-MCMXT module is required per ControlLogix rack to enable Modbus connectivity. The MVI56E-MCMXT occupies a single slot in the rack and functions as an input/output module on the ControlLogix backplane, making Modbus data appear as standard I/O data to the processor.
For Dual Serial Port applications, the MVI56E-MCMXT provides two independently configurable serial ports that can operate simultaneously. In addition to standard single port operation, the dual port configuration also performs flexible network management. The MVI56E-MCMXT dual port configuration executes communication using the internal database shared between both ports. Using this method, the redundant communication system continually manages data flow across both ports. If the system detects that one network requires master functionality while the other requires slave functionality, it will automatically configure each port accordingly and maintain seamless data mapping to the ControlLogix processor.
The MVI56E-MCMXT ProSoft Communication Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
