More Information

Overview Manuals Fiber Ring Memory Mapping Redundancy Link Rack Integration

Features:

  • Shares reflective memory over a deterministic 2.12 GBaud multimode-fiber ring.
  • Provides a dedicated data path between primary and secondary RX3i redundancy CPUs.
  • Uses 128 MB of network memory without consuming RX3i CPU processing for transfers.
The module can serve either a general reflective-memory network or a CPU redundancy link.

Data written by one reflective-memory node is propagated automatically to every compatible node on the ring.

Redundancy service uses a dedicated two-node fiber path and changes which general network functions remain available.

The General Electric IC695RMX128 Redundant Memory Xchange Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Multimode Network Path

  • Topology: Transmit and receive ports form a closed daisy-chained fiber loop.
  • Distance: The multimode IC695RMX128 link supports as much as 300 m between nodes.
  • Connector: LC interfaces conform to IEC 61754-20 and require clean, correctly crossed fiber paths.
  • Ring Rule: A hub is not permitted between modules assigned as a redundancy pair.

Reflective Address Flow

  • Automatic Replication: A write at one node updates the same network location at the other active nodes.
  • Memory Segments: The configurable offset groups nodes by the 16 MB address segment they use.
  • Packet Handling: The module adjusts packet size dynamically from 4 to 64 bytes.
  • Interrupt Data: Four general network interrupts each carry 32 bits of associated data.

Primary and Secondary Pairing

  • Dedicated Ring: One module in each CPU system and two fibers create the required two-node path.
  • Exclusive Role: A module assigned to redundancy cannot simultaneously act as a general-purpose Memory Xchange node.
  • Link Quantity: Up to two RMX modules can be configured as redundancy links in one main rack.
  • Recommended Design: Emerson recommends two redundancy links, using four RMX modules, where the architecture requires it.

Backplane and Service Boundaries

  • Slot Format: The module occupies one slot in an RX3i Universal Backplane.
  • Power Draw: The rack supplies 580 mA at 3.3 VDC and 220 mA at 5 VDC.
  • Hot Maintenance: Insertion and removal follow the documented RX3i powered-maintenance procedure.
  • EMC Control: A metal enclosure is required to meet the radiated-emissions requirements.
Description
General Electric IC695RMX128 is a single-slot PACSystems RX3i Redundant Memory Xchange module that combines 128 MB of reflective SDRAM with a multimode LC fiber interface.

In reflective-memory service, every write handled by IC695RMX128 is propagated around the fiber ring so linked controllers or computing nodes share deterministic data without using RX3i CPU processing for network operation.

For an RX3i CPU redundancy link, IC695RMX128 forms a dedicated two-node ring between the primary and secondary systems; while assigned to that role it cannot simultaneously serve as a general-purpose Memory Xchange node.

Technical notes
General Electric IC695RMX128 supplies a 2.12 GBaud multimode reflective-memory path for RX3i data sharing or a dedicated CPU redundancy link. The selected operating role determines the permitted ring topology.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Why does General Electric IC695RMX128 leave a redundancy link open after installation?
Verify that both General Electric IC695RMX128 modules use multimode-compatible LC fiber, correct transmitter-to-receiver routing, matching node parameters and CPU-supported firmware.
Can General Electric IC695RMX128 be placed in an IC694 expansion base?
No. General Electric IC695RMX128 requires an RX3i Universal Backplane and cannot use an IC694 expansion base that lacks the required interface.
What should be checked after an electrostatic event at General Electric IC695RMX128?
A direct discharge at the General Electric IC695RMX128 optical housing can require a power cycle; inspect link status and use a grounded ESD strap before further handling.
Why is an unsupported firmware downgrade risky for General Electric IC695RMX128?
General Electric IC695RMX128 hardware and firmware generations must follow the applicable IPI compatibility table; an incompatible downgrade can leave the module inoperable.
How can General Electric IC695RMX128 nodes use separate network-memory regions?
Configure each General Electric IC695RMX128 network-memory offset so the intended nodes share the same 16 MB segment of reflective address space.
What does redundant-transfer mode change on General Electric IC695RMX128?
Redundant-transfer mode on General Electric IC695RMX128 lowers the chance of a dropped network packet by applying the module’s protected transfer behavior on the ring.
Why can General Electric IC695RMX128 not share its redundancy fiber with extra reflective-memory nodes?
When General Electric IC695RMX128 is assigned as a CPU redundancy link, the manual requires a dedicated two-node ring between the primary and secondary systems.
