Features:
- Triple Modular Redundancy for safety; dedicated self‑test circuit verifies OFF detection capability, critical for de‑energize‑to‑trip systems.
- Each input electrically independent; 2500 VDC isolation for 3501T; prevents ground loops; connects devices with different ground potentials.
- OFF→ON delay <8 ms; ON→OFF delay <15 ms; switching level >86 V (ON) and <28 V (OFF); hysteresis 32 V; nominal turn‑on current 6‑9 mA.
The 3501T is a Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) digital input module, meaning it has three independent input channels per point. Each channel processes the signal independently, and the main processors vote on the result before using the data. This architecture ensures that a single fault in one channel does not compromise system integrity. The 3501T also includes a self‑test feature specifically designed to detect stuck‑ON conditions. In a de‑energize‑to‑trip safety system, the ability to detect that an input has turned OFF is critical.
The 3501T provides 32 input points that are non‑commoned and isolated from each other. This means each input has its own independent return path; the negatives are not tied together internally. Point isolation is rated at 1500 VDC (2500 VDC for the 3501T). This level of isolation is critical when field devices are located on different ground potentials or when long cable runs pick up induced voltages. Without isolation, ground loops can cause false readings or damage the input circuitry.
The 3501T is designed to reliably detect input signals in industrial environments where voltage levels may vary. It accepts AC or DC voltages from 90 to 155 V, covering nominal 110V, 115V, and 120V systems. The switching thresholds are carefully set: the input turns ON at >86 V and turns OFF at <28 V. This wide hysteresis (32 V) prevents nuisance toggling due to noise or voltage fluctuations. The OFF→ON delay is less than 8 milliseconds, and the ON→OFF delay is less than 15 milliseconds.
The 3501T Triconex Digital Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL)by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD): Captures binary states from high-voltage field pressure switches, safety interlock pushbuttons, and critical process valve limit switches to execute immediate process isolation upon safety breaches.
- Burner Management Systems (BMS): Monitors heavy-duty 115V utility circuits, blower motor auxiliary contacts, furnace exhaust dampers, and fuel isolation valve limits to enforce critical furnace purge and ignition sequences.
- Fire and Gas Systems (F&G): Consolidates active high-voltage alerts from traditional, high-power flame monitors and industrial-grade combustible gas sensing switches in hazardous marshaling enclosures.
- Nuclear Class 1E Safety Automation: Utilized within commercial nuclear power plants for Reactor Protection Systems (RPS), Engineered Safety Features Actuation Systems (ESFAS), and critical control room instrumentation due to Tricon's nuclear qualification.
- Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) Voting: The module houses three independent channels (A, B, and C).
- Active Onsite Pulse Diagnostics: Conducts continuous, non-intrusive background microprocessor testing.
- High-Voltage Galvanic Isolation: Employs optoelectronic isolation rated up to 1500V AC/DC.
- Granular Fault Notification: The front faceplate features Pass, Fault, and Active LED status indicators.
- Chassis Slotting: Verify that the mechanical keying pins on the target slot inside the Tricon Main or Expansion Chassis match the 3501T specifications.
- External Termination Board Assembly: Connect the module's rear interface to the designated External Termination Assembly (ETA) using an approved Triconex multi-conductor system cable.
- Power Verification: The module draws redundant 24VDC system power automatically via the chassis backplane. Upon insertion, watch the LED initialization sequence. Once the Pass indicator remains solid green and the Active indicator lights up, the module has loaded its runtime map and is actively monitoring the field loops.
