Features:
- Acts as the SCB1 communication master for remote SCI1 and SCI2 interfaces.
- Connects as many as two serial I/O stations over fiber-optic cable.
- Transfers the two slave data sets synchronously without slave-to-slave traffic.
The SCB1 extends converter I/O beyond the local electronics assembly by placing SCI stations on an isolated optical path.
Each remote station keeps its own bus address and external electronics supply while the master coordinates the communication cycle.
Separate parameter and diagnostic groups support channel setup, live I/O observation, and telegram troubleshooting during start-up.
The Siemens 6SE7090-0XX84-0BC0 SIMOVERT SCB1 Serial Communication Board may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Master and Slave Boundaries
- Master board: SCB1 exchanges data with the connected SCI stations.
- Station count: One or two SCI1/SCI2 interfaces may share the master.
- Cable reach: Each fiber-optic connection is limited to 10 m.
- Traffic rule: SCI slaves cannot communicate directly with each other.
SCI Channel Capacity
- SCI1 binary channels: Ten inputs and eight outputs are available.
- SCI1 analog channels: Three inputs and three outputs extend the converter.
- SCI2 binary channels: Sixteen inputs and twelve outputs are provided.
- Analog selection: Each SCI1 channel uses either its voltage or current mode.
Address and Parameter Sequence
- Board position: Fit SCB1 in slot 2, or slot 3 when a technology board is present.
- Slave identity: Give every SCI interface a unique address with switch S1.
- Channel setup: U690–U698 configure analog and binary behavior.
- Value transfer: Reinitialize the supplementary board after parameter changes.
LED and Display Interpretation
- SCB1 normal state: A flashing master-board LED indicates operation.
- No telegrams: A 12 Hz SCI flash points to absent link traffic.
- Faulty telegrams: A 5 Hz SCI flash identifies disturbed communication.
- Detailed checks: n697, n699, F070–F079, A049, and A050 support diagnosis.
